The High Desert Linguistics Society (HDLS) is the graduate student association of the University of New Mexico (UNM) Linguistics Department. HDLS is a student organization that aims to support the graduate student community in the Department of Linguistics and the Department of Education (Educational Linguistics) in their academic endeavors. HDLS aims to promote the exchange of ideas among students pursuing higher education in linguistics and related disciplines. In addition, one of our main responsibilities is putting on a high-quality conference biennially. The theme of this year’s conference is cognition, culture and discourse in signed, spoken and indigenous languages.
